![]() We are a married couple from the United States in our early 30s who have decided to evolve our understanding of how we can make a little bit of a difference and give something back, while opening our eyes and minds to the world around us. We have lived in Chicago for the past seven years – a great city that quickly became our home. However, something was missing and over the past couple years we started to question how consumed we’ve become with our own little world. After forcing ourselves to slow down, breathe and take a look at the bigger picture, we constantly began asking ourselves, “What are we doing?” And so we started to discuss making some big changes before settling down to have a family. After ruling out the Peace Corps due to its over two-year commitment, we began researching volunteer sites in South America and quickly realized the abundance of opportunities available across the continent. Despite all its inequities, anger and destruction, the world is a magnificent place, and we would like to help preserve some of its natural wonders while helping those in need. Of course, we love traveling and experiencing other cultures and languages, so we will certainly do some traveling for ourselves as well. Yet, our main motivation is to contribute a little something to the world in which we live. While we are taking a life path slightly “less traveled,” we feel comfortable enough with ourselves to venture out on this journey. As we chart our own volunteer course and travels in South America, this is a means to share our experience with you, as well as chronicle our little adventure. We hope you enjoy our South American journey, and who knows, maybe we’ll even inspire a few people along the way. Thanks for reading, Lee & Janelle
